What is unreasonable?

After my friend Stacey had her second adorable daughter her pediatrician told her something we think is unusual. The baby is healthy and gaining weight at a great rate, yet her doctor suggested not going anywhere for two months, at least until the baby got her shots.

Is that NORMAL?!

What's up with the two months? Have any of you had similar situations or do you think two months is too long?

  1. I think 2 months is too long, but it's reasonable I guess. I try for 6 weeks, at least not taking the baby to church or places of close quarters to strangers. I have a friend who had a baby in Oct. and her dr told her 6 months!!! Now that is rediculous, and she actually did follow that suggestion, crazy!

  2. My Dad tells his patients to wait 6 weeks usually, but I think two months is pretty long. It is a good idea to be careful until they get their shots because of the risks of exposure to illnesses. But I think 6 weeks is more reasonable :)

  3. Winter is more tricky, and definately during RSV season (Dec-Mar)2 months is the norm- especially for very public places like church or the grocery store. 1-2 months is my recommendation for any newborn. I beleive that people just take their children out WAY WAY too early- like hanging out at church showing off the baby a week or two later.

  4. THE DOCTOR WAS JUST TRYIN TO SCARE YOU. I HAVE DONE A TON OF RESEARCH ON SHOTS FOR BABIES, IF THEY REALLY NEED THEM OR NOT AND WHEN TO START, ETC. THERE IS NO NEED TO STAY HOME!

  5. I had horrible cabin fever after my children were born and didn't wait nearly that long to take my babies out. If I did take them out I usually carried them in the baby bjorn. That way I was really controlling who and what touched them.

  6. my doc said the same thing with my new little guy. She said that if newborns under two months get a fever above 100.4 they automatically have to be re-hopitalized. YIKES! We have kept him out of church and other places where people are super inclined to stick their lare heads in your carseat to "see"/infect baby, haha but we have taken him tons of places that are open and where he isnt in direct contact.

  7. 6 weeks is normal, but maybe he/she is erring on the side of caution with the H1N1 flu and everything going around. Also Whooping cough or pertussis has made a big come back. Both of these would be scary for such a little one to get!

  8. Maybe it's just because of the swine flu going around.
I have 3 babies and I've traveled with them by 3 weeks... it's just what you're comfortable with.

  9. I had a few doctors tell me not to take my baby out for 2-3 months because she started out in the NICU. She was in there just shy of a week and was a little early, but then was growing healthy, normal weight, etc. I thought it was a little excessive, but it sure made a great excuse when I wasn't feeling up for visitors or going places! :)
