Book Recommendations?

What books do you recommend a new or expecting mom read?

I know a few were mentioned back on this post.

  1. The Happiest Baby on the Block by Dr. Harvey Karp

It teaches you how to correctly swaddle your baby, how to get them to sleep through the night and how to calm your baby from crying.

  2. Parenting with Love and Logic by Foster W. Cline and Jim Fay

This is my FAVORITE parenting style. I learned about this is college in reference to the school classroom. (There is another book called Teaching with Love and Logic.) This is a book that is great for both parents to read. Seriously a MUST read!!

  3. The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease

This is a great book to read any time you are a mom, especially when your children are young. This book reports the advantages of reading out loud to your children and not quitting even as they get older. The statistics are amazing! It is an easy read that I found fascinating.

Another plus to this book is that in the back the author included almost two hundred pages of book summaries. Wordless books, picture books, short novels, poetry, and fairy and folk tales are just a few of what there is to choose from. It tells you the title, author and how many pages the book has, then it gives you a short summary on the book. LOVE it!!

  4. so i was coming to post the book i think all parents should read. i have told all parents i have taught in parenting classes, the parents i daycared for, or while teaching kinder transition classes because of all the incredible information you get.....and it is listed already!!!
The read aloud handbook is awesome!!

Also if you want to read a book unlike any other parenting book...just because of the topic and way it is presented read The Hurried Child. It makes you think about all the things we expect of our kids to do way too young and even explains why its bad to do it so early. i have not read it for 3 or 4 years but i remember being surprised and touched by what i read and felt like we should all try and just let our kids be little.
