First Time Mom Help

Okay moms, my BF Shanna needs help planning for her new little guy who is coming soon.

Here on her personal blog she pleads for help. She wants to know what a FIRST TIME MOM needs. (We all remember how it felt to become a mom-so pitch in ladies.)

I know that we did this question before but I'm sure you've thought of things to add to our list.

HERE is the link to the last time I posted this question.

  1. I think my #1 is a swing.
My first lived in it and my second liked it. They were both content in it for me to get things done. I think it is hard because all kids are differnet. My two are so opposite, if one like something the other didn't really. haha I say dont buy everything at once, try a few things first and go from there, I think I overdid it with my first, buying EVERYTHING.
My #2 thing is for you and it is called Vigilon wound dressing.
I have no idea if you can just purchase it some where but I got it from my lactation consultant with my most recent baby. She suggested not using lanolin because it makes you nipples slippery and therefore cause baby to continue to latch incorrectly (makes sense)so she gave me this stuff and you just cut off a little square and stick it on your nipple, and replace after each feeding. It is a wonder product. I went from cracked and bleeding to good as new over night! Love it!

    GOOD LUCK!

PS I second Brit's comments on your blog about nursing. It can definetly be hard but if you REALLY want to I think in most cases you can.

  2. I've been reading this blog for a while, but never commented. Now that my daughter is six months old though I feel slightly more experienced so I'll give it a try.

I stressed about baby stuff, too, but mostly because I was on a fairly tight budget and was planning on moving to a foreign country when my daughter was six weeks old-- so I could really only buy what was absolutely necessary and what would basically fit into a suit case!

I actually mostly used this list when I was pregnant and it was a life-saver!: http://theboard.byu.edu/index.php?area=viewall&id=7529

That website is owned and run through BYU, so I really trust it and have gotten some great advice through it. That list is pretty much complete for a brand new baby, only I would also recommend nail clippers. :)

  4. I know we mentioned these in the last blog post about baby items, but having a bumbo and a boppy were essential for me.

Also, something that we as Mom's often neglect that I've come to see as a necessity is a hobby! Something that while the baby is still new can still make you feel like you. Whether it's scrapbooking, doing puzzles, reading, talking walks whatever! Just make sure you find something you can do that makes you still feel human!

  5. I agree about the bumbo and boppy. I love the boppy pillow, it made things so much easier for me and it was so worth the money for me (and my husband).
