I will admit that one of the hardest things for me post pregnancy has been the weight issue. I gained 40 pounds during my pregnancy and as much as I felt like I was as big as a house I had a baby inside of me so I dealt with it. I figured after I had Hallie and no longer had a baby inside me I would drop the weight fast and go back to the weight I was when I got pregnant. We all see the TV stars that have babies and then one month later appear on a magazine cover in a bikini! I quickly realized that that's just NOT realistic!
So what is realistic?
Advice or tips on losing the baby weight and being patient until you do?
I really like to exercise, so I'm sure this comment will be quite lengthy.
ReplyDeleteOn an airplane, they always remind you that in an emergency you need to put your oxygen mask on first, then your babies. You have to take care of yourself so you can take care of your baby. If losing your baby weight becomes important to you, don't feel guilty about the time it takes. As your energy levels rise and your strength increases, you'll be a more productive mother and housewife anyway.
Many people think only of cardio workouts when they want to lose weight. Please, please add strength training to your routine! Though a cardio workout burns more calories initially than strength training, muscle burns more calories than fat. So by adding strength training you'll make your body a more effective calorie burner all around. Even when you're getting that much needed nap.
Set realistic goals. If you are nursing your body will need an extra 5-10 pounds. Keep that in mind when setting your goal weight.
Okay, I could go on and on. Read my blog for more on this topic.
I have done cardio my whole life and didn't want to change because I was loosing so many calories doing it, but as I got older I couldn't loose weight anymore, even though I average 500 calories a workout. I have finally decided to give the weight lifting a try and have actually cut my running to just 3 days a week and now lift 3 days a week. Just in one week, I already feel tighter and can see my arms firming up tons. How many times have people told me to do this, yet I didn't. In the long run we will have to see what happens- I still haven't lost any weight, but I am optomistic!
ReplyDeleteWhen I am having a fat moment, I look at my son and remind myself he is definitely worth those ten pounds that will not go away! And then if I'm feeling especially ambitious, I get off the couch and get active. Stroller walks are my favorite because they easy, low-impact, and the fresh air feels so good. Stroller walks with friends and their babies are even better!
