Advice on tantrums and potty training?

  1. I don't know about the "hot mamma" comment because I feel like I always look pale and tired lately :) but thanks Brittany! I just want to know any tips for handling tantrums and potty training ideas. Thanks!

  2. I use time outs when my 3 year old throws a tantrum. I stick him in his chair in his room and tell him that when he's happy to let me know and he can come out. It works pretty well most of the time. I've learned to not make any threats or promises that I'm not willing to follow through with. He's getting old enough that he remembers.

As far as potty training, I haven't broached that yet. So I'm also looking for advice. Though what most people have told me is wait until your child is ready and it will make your life a whole lot easier.

Some mom's have discussed it there as well.

  4. The hardest thing about motherhood is being consistant. So many times you are busy and just want to give in to whatever, but you can't. They are testing their limits- that is their job. Yours is to be consistent. Even when it is embarrasing and you have to walk away from your cart at Target full of stuff, because they won't stop throwing a fit. Don't worry- it does get better.
As far as potty training goes- "potty training in a day." It's a book at the library. Someone gave it to me when I was getting ready to potty train- best thing ever and it works. If you aren't quite as intense as the book suggests you be, it takes a little longer, but it's a lot better than the months of sitting them on the potty and trying to get them to go at just the right time!

  5. I got the book the monkey bunch recommended about six months ago...I wasn't so hardcore about following it strictly, but I definitely used some of the ideas...like loading her up on her favorite drinks all day long. It took two days for her to figure it out both...parts...of potty training. We've had #1 accidents since then...but never #2...so I'm happy.

  6. I used that book as well. It worked great... only had one accident on the second day (and that's because I took a nap). My best advice? Wait until you are both ready.
