Toddler Bed Help
Nurse Kari asks, "How do I transition my 17 month old into a toddler bed from her crib. I have the new baby coming in October, and everyone is telling me to do it before the new baby comes. But how? I am worried she won't stay in a todddler bed."
Moms what do you think?
If she's not ready, it doesn't matter if a baby is coming or not, it will be havoc if you force the issue. If she's excited and ready for it- or if you judge she is, let her be involved in getting the "big bed" ready (bought or dressed in new linens or whatever the case may be), and make sure she's comfy with going to sleep by sitting next to the bed at bedtime and having a routine (singing, reading stories, ect.). If all else fails and she comes out of her room, put a childproof doorknob on the inside of the door and wait it out! My son had to be (WOULD NOT SLEEP IN A CRIB) in a toddler bed at 13 months and loved it!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Kari Kate had a similar question a few weeks ago. Check out what people told her about her toddler sleeping in a big kid bed.
ReplyDeleteWell the comments were helpful that I got in the earlier post. But ultimately I decided we weren't ready for a toddler bed yet. We tried it for a couple of days, but it was exhausting trying to keep him from escaping at bedtimes. He just wanted to get up and play and since he knows how to open doors, he would run out into the living room every time we'd put him in his bed. I got so tired of fighting it. So I decided to keep him in a crib as long as possible, probably for a couple more months, until he is older and hopefully better able to understand that bedtime is meant to be spent in a bed! (he is 21 months). In our case, I was not up to the challenge of training the toddler to stay in the big bed, and so we are waiting for a while longer. So I say just be sure that your child is ready, and that also you are ready to deal with the training part of it. Good luck!!
