Getting Baby To Take A Bottle

Alesha, who loves to wear stiletto's :) asks, "My baby is almost 3 months old and will not take a bottle (breast milk). I am going to school and need him to take one but only once a week. I hate pumping and don't really want to try to give him a bottle everyday (for him to get use to it) and have pump, is that my only option? Any tricks for getting them to take it. My first could have cared less, bottle or nurse, breastmilk or formula. Why is this one so picky?

  1. I don't know if you are trying to give him the bottle or not, but mine little guy doesn't take it from me, only from his daddy or someone who doesn't have the good stuff sitting right there within reach! He started taking it from him from about 2 1/2 months, and now that he is 4 he will sometimes take it from me, but he gives seriously bad looks at me the whole time. Anyway try someone else if you haven't already.

  2. I had to give up nursing my 1st at 6 months b/c I was 3 months pregnant and my dr said that nursing was taking too much nutrients from both me and the new baby. It was horrible, probably one of the worst experiences of my life! He refused to take a bottle, even of pumped milk! I tried that 1st just to get him used to it, then I tried the formula. He refused! The doctor said that he would just have to cry it out and he would eat when he was hungry enough. It's true, he finally did take the bottle, but it was so hard just to let him cry and cry until he finally gave in and drank. That's all I know to do though, just let them cry it out until they finally give in, oh and it did help when my husband was the one feeding him instead of me.

  3. I pumped exclusively because my baby was in the NICU when she was born and couldn't nurse. So I had the opposite problem, but I would try the Adiri Natural Nurser bottle if you think that could help. It is made out of silicone and no joke, the top looks and feels just like a boob.
As for pumping, if you have to do it, I would strongly recommend taking an old tank top, cut dime size holes in the center of the chest, and then you can put the pump phlanges through there, it makes it so you have 2 free hands. And, if you want to pump less often, I always got the most milk in my morning pump, so hopefully you could get enough for 2 bottles worth and only pump every other day. Good luck!
